When I had my baby I knew I would want him to love reading too. I decided early on that we would read a bedtime story every night and I would do my best to set a good example for him. We started out introducing him to books early on, when he was just a couple of months old. His first book was cloth and colorful. Eventually we graduated to the typical board books that babies love to chew on and throw and crawl over. I tried being patient with him while reading because his attention span was so short, by the time I got done reading the first page, he wanted down. I thought "how the heck am I ever suppose to read him a book, if this is how it's going to go?" But we tried again and again most nights and he would always want to do something else after the first page.
About a month or two ago, everything changed. Suddenly, I could read a whole book to him, in fact I could read several books to him in one sitting. He would beg me to read to him. If I was on the computer, he'd grab a book, take my knee, spin me around on my desk chair and throw his arms in the air. "Up" I'd pick him up, read him his book, put him down and he'd go pick out another one. It was the cutest thing. Lately, he doesn't even need me to read. I'll be busy in a different room and it'll be way too quiet, and when it's quiet I know he's up to something. So I'd sneak over to peek at him and he'd be sitting on this bed...reading! Books scattered all around him, and he'd have one on his lap. I love this! It honestly melts my heart. He would honestly rather read a book than play with his toys. I think that is amazing. I hope his love of books and reading does not ever stop.
Here are some photos I've managed to snap over the last week. Enjoy!
