I have been so unbelievably busy lately, and I haven't slept in what seems like forever. Combination of late night working and then a poorly-sleep trained toddler that won't sleep unless he's in Mommy's bed. There are projects everywhere I turn and although it may seem like I'm complaining and completely overwhelmed, I am actually impressing myself with my super graphic abilities. Let me tell you my little story...
This month my church is celebrating 150 years of Christian Ministry and I have been put in charge of layout and design of the service program and history booklet. Now I haven't done any layout (with the exception of my own wedding programs) in a long time. The last time I laid out anything, it was in Quark, and I've been told that Quark is now pretty much obsolete, so yeah, it's been a while. I decided that since I don't have Quark and I couldn't find any Photoshop templates that let you create a booklet, I'd use Microsoft Word 10. I've NEVER in my life used this version of Word and it's been at least ten years since I've used any version of Word. (I prefer FREE alternatives, let me know if you are interested and I'll let you on the free-be links)
So here I am having to design a booklet with a software I've never used before and I was stumped. I am normally the one people call for these type of issues, I figure things out that I previously never knew because I enjoy helping people out. I am a go-getter. I get things done. So you can imagine how overwhelmed and disappointed I was as I searched my phone for someone, anyone that could help...me. My sister was the only one I could think of and she was vacationing up north. Great. So I resorted to calling Office Max's printing department for a little help. They told me they could print out a sample and help me from there. When I went it to get the sample and found it to be so completely wrong, I asked the guy what I can to do fix it. He had no clue. He actually had no clue how to even navigate in Word 10. Perfect, I just started using it, and I knew more than him. I took a look at the sample and decided I may have my booklet settings wrong, I made one tiny adjustment and voila! Perfect little booklet. Ah, I'm a genius. Ok, not really, but at that moment I was super proud of myself and all the frustration I felt previously faded as I beamed from ear to ear with my achievement! Yes, I still have it.
Have a peak at the cover of our Service program and please, feel free to stop in on Sunday, September 18th to join us for a our anniversary service at 3 p.m. Everyone is always welcome at my church.
