My family and I love garage sales. We like finding treasures and deals. My sister recently went to a garage sale and found a sign she thought my mother would like. (see below) My mother thought it was great and she wanted to have one for some special family members, so using the wording from the original sign, I re-created it for them. I first designed it with just the text and words, choosing a country blue color and finding fonts that I thought went well with the design. I wasn't quite happy with it. It seemed plain and boring to me. I had planned on getting it printed with a texture, but I still thought it needed something. That's when I went online and found a really cool texture of some wood for the background. I added the texture and put it in overlay so the blue would still show through. I absolutely love how this turned out and I'm hoping that the recipients will be just as pleased. I had it printed and mounted with Masonite which gives it a sturdy, almost metal feeling.

My church is celebrating it's 150th anniversary! I am so proud to be a member of this small, country church. It is where I was confirmed, it is where my husband and I were married, and it is where my son was baptized. It has a special place in my heart. We don't have many members that attend, but the services are intimate and friendly. I am proud to say it is "my" church. So anyways, as part of the celebration we are having past pastors come back and visit, and it just so happens that the pastor that confirmed my father is going to be visiting. How cool!
My Dad found a picture of his confirmation and asked me to clean it up a little for the pastor. I really like restoring old photographs. In this age of digital pictures, people have a million and one pictures on their camera or card and most of them don't get printed or even seen. In the "old" days each picture was purposeful and had meaning.
I was honored to touch up this photo for my father. I removed the dust and scratches and some lines from processing. I also sharpened facial features and adjusted the color slightly. This photo was in pretty good condition to begin with so that made my job easier.
If you have any old photographs that you would like restored please contact me!
I thought it would be nice to have a new header for the holiday season. Unfortunately I have not had much time to play with my camera, but I have been spending a lot of time designing, so I thought I'd change it up a bit. I found this tree as a brush on Brusheezy and I wanted so desperately to use it for a holiday card I was designing but I couldn't get the layout to work so baddabing...I'll use it as my header...that way I can see it everyday. It makes me happy, it's super whimsical. As mentioned before I have a thing for trees and I think it's funny that I've come a long way in my taste of trees since I've had a child. I actually had a good friend of mine paint a tree on my nursery wall because I love them so much and I wanted Brin to share my love. She wanted to paint a "playful" tree, I wanted something symmetrical and realistic. We ended up deciding on something in between, and it turned out amazing. I find it funny I was drawn to this whimsical tree in my header. I think it is a metaphor for my new life as a mom. Yep. Wow, only I can take a Photoshop brush and create a meaning behind it. LOL
Anyways, to design this header, I used my pen tool to draw the snow, and then I added the tree brush. I drew little circles for the ornaments on the tree. I beveled everything because I'm loving 3D looks lately, and I gave pretty much everything an outter glow to make it shine. I then used another brush from Brusheezy to create the rays of light from the star. I decreased the opacity to 60%. I drew the star, beveled it and gave it an outer glow. There you have it, a simple header created by moi. Like it? Hope so!
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. A day full of food and family, two of my favorite things. This year is a little more special because it is Brindley's first Thanksgiving and he loves eating big people food. I can already see his little face all covered with mashed potatoes and gravy. So adorable. I haven't really been keeping up with my list of things I'm thankful for on my blog, but I can tell you that every day of my life, I am so very thankful for everything I have. It is nice that we have set aside this one day to give thanks, but in my personal life I stop at least 5 times a day and give thanks to the Lord above for various things. My family and I are very blessed and especially since becoming a mom, I've grown to realize how short and precious life is. You never know what breath will be your last, so I would encourage my readers to treat everyday as Thanksgiving (if you don't already) and be truly thankful for every thing that is in your life every day. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
I have had quite a few projects I've been working on and unfortunately I cannot share them until the recipients receive their gifts, but I did get Brindley's invite complete and Shani's and Brian's Proof book done from our shoot the other day, so I thought I'd share the designs with you.
Brindley's invite turned out great. I've had this design in my head for a long time and it took a while to get all the pictures edited, converted and lined up correctly. Silly me should have just done the layout and then converted the whole thing to greyscale. But no, I opened each picture at first and made adjustments and then saved it separately. Then I made an action when I realized how repetitive it was getting. Then I figured out I could have just laid it out and converted the whole thing at once. Photoshop users will understand what I'm talking about and join me in this "duh" moment. I swear sometimes my brain just doesn't work and likes to make my life more difficult.
But anyways, I loved the way they turned out. I designed and drew the whole thing with the exception of the trees, which were brushes that I got from Brusheezy. That is a website I highly recommend for any type of brushes.
Shani and Brian were happy with their proofs and asked me to design a custom Christmas card for them. I am so honored and excited to be able to create a one of a kind card for their family and friends. Let me know if you need any custom cards for your holidays, there is still time to get them done! Hope to hear from you soon!
Yesterday I had so very, very much fun with my favorite couple...Shani and Brian. Shani has had these pictures in her head since this time last year and I am so happy when I can produce what a client (friend) has in mind. I absolutely had so much fun shooting these two. We laughed the whole time and had a wonderful lunch and some yummy Alterra coffee. It was a perfect day to spend at Bayshore. A little dreary outside but perfect for some shopping and picture taking! I got a chance to use my new lens and I was so excited by how the pictures turned out! These two told me I have my work cut out for me because they don't photograph well, I told them they are not allowed to say that anymore, and you'll see why below...I have beautiful friends!
P.S. I scored an awesome CD from Brian that I am listening to right now...Thanks Brian! Brian is a talented disc jockey and I value his opinion when it comes to music. He introduces me to new music, which in turn I end up loving and listening to over and over...which drives my Hubby nuts...which means he'll leave me alone to get my work done and edit these pictures. It comes full circle...thanks Bri!
Today I am so thankful for my sisters. Over the weekend my sister came for a visit and spoiled my little family as usual. While visiting she helped me recover my kitchen stools (along with another sister) and taught my son to walk on his own, which I'm still not sure I should be saying I'm thankful for yet, because he's getting into everything, but I guess it was going to happen eventually! I have 6 sisters, technically two are sister-in-laws but I love them just the same and they are just like my birth sisters. I can't imagine my life without these ladies and although they are each different in their own way, they are all incredibly strong, beautiful and talented women. I could never express my complete gratitude for everything they have done for me, but I think they all know how appreciative I am of them! They have all been there and continue to be there for me and my family and for that I am SO VERY thankful!
The pancake brunch for my church went well, as far as I could see. I was only able to help out for a little bit, due to a little guy at home getting teeth...again. Seriously, how many teeth are in a mouth and must he get all snotty, congested, crabby, runny and red with each one? I mean the kid is miserable and I feel helpless. I just want to take away all his pain. He won't let me put him down for a second. It is intense. Oh well, good news is hopefully he'll have another tooth in a day or two to munch his food with and everything will be back to normal...hopefully. In the meantime I am very busy with projects, not only for work, but for the Christmas season and Brin's birthday. To boot, I bought some new software and I've been trying to figure that out, which takes time. I am planning on purchasing a new lens for some photo shoots I have coming up and I am really excited about it! Yay for new toys! So stay tuned for some pictures. I haven't touched my camera in like two or three weeks, so I'm feeling a little anxious about playing with it again, but I'm looking forward to it! I think it misses me...and I am definitely missing it. This morning was all foggy by me, I mean the kind of fog you can barely see through, but oh, the photo ops to be had. It was beautiful. But alas, I had to work today, so no foggy pictures for me. :( By the time I actually get around to doing some landscapes I'm afraid I will have snowy pictures. Oh boy...
Today I am so very thankful for my husband. I think I am the luckiest person in the world to have found the person I am suppose to spend the rest of my life with. He is truly my soul mate and best friend. I am amazed that even after ten years, he still gives me butterflies in my tummy with just a look and I find myself thinking about him constantly. We have a saying on the wall in our bedroom, "Just one lifetime won't be enough for us". It is so true. I love him enough for ten lifetimes or more and I can't imagine ever having to live without him. Year after year, I seem to love him more and in a different way. He has become a wonderful husband and an amazing Father. I've didn't know a love like this even existed, lately it seems as if people are breaking up and getting divorced all the time. I mean who really stays together anymore? I think the divorce rate is something like 50%! It's a scary thing, but rather than focus on the negative, I choose to be thankful each day that we found each other and we have a love that defies all the odds. I am so very, very thankful to have this amazing man in my life!

This is a little project my sister wanted me to work on for her. She is an extremely talented artist and graphic designer, so when she asked me to use my skills, I felt really honored. My brother-in-law shot this nice buck this year (congrats Joey) and my sister wanted to possibly use this picture for Christmas cards but darn, she's not in it! However she did have a separate picture of herself that I could use to add in. Now this is a difficult task being that the pictures are taken at two different times of day. One in bright sunlight and one in the complete darkness of night with a harsh flash. I did what I could and I have about a dozen different versions, but in the end I decided to make the picture black and white to hide the contrast of the two pictures. I went so far as to clone her hair to make it darker. I loves challenges though and if anyone has any suggestions on how to make this picture better, please feel free to comment! Thanks!
Thanks to my favorite blog I was able to discover a new blog today and enter two contests to get some really neat items! You can enter too by visiting www.pamelatopping.com and joining in the fun! I love contests...I don't win too often, but the possibility is a lot of fun.
Actually speaking of winning, I *did* win the Halloween scavenger hunt this last weekend, with the help of my husband and some other teammates. It was a LOT of fun and I'm so stoked to have won! I will be doing another contest again on my site soon because I love giving stuff away! Stay tuned and in the meantime, check out the links above!
I'm an open book. I can be too honest for my own good. Maybe a blog isn't the best idea for a person like me, but I can be quite entertaining at times. Plus, a blog is good for search engine rankings...lol, I'm such a nerd!
