I have been super busy lately but I had a moment to play around with a photo I took up North today. I added a texture to it and wanted to share. I absolutely adore Shadowhouse Textures, if you get a second stop in and comment on their amazing work! Cheers!~
Congratulations Breton! You won the photo necklace! I will contact you shortly to give you the details. Thank you to everyone that participated! I truly appreciate your support! Stay tuned for more giveaways... :)
Many years back a friend gave me the best gift I will ever receive from another human being. It was crafted with love and it had to do with a very personal thought that I had shared. When I received it I was so unbelievably surprised and amazed that someone would take the time to craft something so beautiful for me...what was it you ask? Well, let me describe it. There was an oblong shallow pot and on one side there was a bonsai tree and hanging on that little bonsai tree was a little swing made out of a popsicle stick and thread. On the other side of the pot, next to the tree and the swing was a little pond, complete with little tiny rocks. It was amazing. Most certainly the best gift I will ever receive. I treasured this gift for a long time until one day the bonsai tree was looking kind of sick. (for those of you that don't know bonsai trees, they are very finicky plants) The day came when the last leaf fell and my-most-perfect-gift was no more. So sad.
Ok...I'm getting somewhere with this I promise.
Let's fast forward a bunch of years and while I was reading a Rachael Ray magazine I came across an article about terrariums. They were adorable and instantly made me think of my long lost favorite gift. I knew I needed to make one. Well, tonight, one turned into five. I couldn't stop myself. These little "worlds in a glass" are so wonderful to look at and fun to make! I think miniature things are beyond cute, and I love nature, so these are perfect for me. I have found supplies everywhere from Walmart, to rummage sails, to our town hall (shhhh, my husband stole me some rocks!) The universe has been setting everything up for me to make one (or five) and I finally complied. With a glass of wine, and my little guy sitting on the counter filling jars with rocks, I got them done! I added little ponds to some of them and everything. Now if I could only figure out a way to shrink myself so I could enjoy the landscape!
I've been itching to have a giveaway. I love winning things, who doesn't? The great news is in my network of photographers and designers and creative-like people, there are no shortages of giveaways and contests. The only problem is they are really time consuming, so I'm going to make my giveaway as easy as possible.
I recently took a jewelry-making class, to try and expand my mind and have a little time to myself. I was excited to learn something new, but that didn't really happen. The class covered everything I already knew how to do and I spent most of the class helping others with their projects than working on my own. I left the class thinking that I should start teaching my own classes, I'm pretty sure I knew more than the teacher did about making jewelry. Now, I'm not claiming to be a complete expert, but I like to experiment and I am pretty creative by nature.
I was inspired by a friend of mine's business she has creating photo jewelry. Her items are amazing and so I decided to give it a try. (please see her link at the side of my page) After some trial and error I came up with the necklaces below of my little guy that I proudly wear.
I'd like to give away one necklace to a special reader. The shape and size will vary from those above, but it will contain a photograph of whomever you choose (husband, wife, children, pets), and it will be created with love by me, just for you!

I'm an open book. I can be too honest for my own good. Maybe a blog isn't the best idea for a person like me, but I can be quite entertaining at times. Plus, a blog is good for search engine rankings...lol, I'm such a nerd!
